"Disappointment"

Certain people use "disappointment" to attempt to affect my behavior. Eg.: "So and so will be very disappointed if you don't come (to this/that event)... so, will you please come?"

No, I will not. I couldn't before and I still can't. Even though he or she or you or anyone might be disappointed.

This may sound chilly, but, your disappointments are not my responsibility. (Mine are.) I trust you will work through said disappointment and it will all but have melted away by the time of said event.

I suspect this type of behavior is a deeply embedded system or code that works for/on many people. It does not work for/on me. But I find it curious and interesting to observe. N'est pas?
